| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- our town I was just reading her most recent entry about her honeymoon road trip. It sounds so fabulous and includes a stop in S.F. and then takes them down south through the state. Which got me thinking. As much as this city I live in tries - we are just NOT a tourist destination. Well, we ARE for some people who, inexplicably, always end up in Old Town and wander around clutching maps and licking gooey, sticky taffy from their fingers because the dime-a-dozen candy shoppes seem to be our biggest attraction. Yesterday, GB helped a friend move from his apartment to a new place just one block over. Said friend lives in midtown and as they were carrying boxes of LPS and CDs from Point A to Point B they got stopped by what GB described as a "gaggle of middle-aged men, conservatively dressed." This gaggle pointed to a nearby 1920s-era apartment building and inquired if that "was where T*m Hanks used to live??" GB and his friend looked at the men and then at each other and shrugged. Who knows? Who cares? T*m Hanks lived here for a few years in the late '70s and still that's one of the few things this damn town seems to be known for. Well, that and our movie star governor and oh, don't forget Mo11y Ringwa1d who was born here but almost never returns. Yes, it's just that kind of town. 2:32 pm - 04.10.05
